Ides of March, 2015, Sunday: a chilly, blustery day on the edge of the coming spring. What to do? Laundry? Vacuuming? No… set the massive aquamarine that has been resident on my desk for the past few Marches, patiently awaiting it’s turn. Result: a chunky, dramatic statement piece, designed to show off this equally dramatic specimen. Old, new, borrowed, blue? This piece fulfills most of the requirements… an antique, colossal aquamarine cabochon (25mm x 18mm x 12mm deep), a bold and contemporary hand fabricated setting, a lovely pale blue that at the slightest ray of sun appears lit from within. But borrow? Hmmm…. this treasure might be seeking a more permanent situation.
