Each year at this time, a wonderful art school local to me is host to an amazing show and sale by a group of potters very worthy of note. The work of this diverse group is is a feast for the eyes as well as the imagination. The reception is this Saturday, and should not be missed by any local pottery lover, or indeed for anyone seeking a jolt of inspiration or a special new acquisition to spice up kitchen or table. The work is appearing at the Art School at Old Church in Demarest, NJ in their Café Gallery, through May 9th. Meet and greet at a festive reception this Saturday, April 30th
from 12 – 2 PM.
This delightful group, well known as the ‘Underground Potters’ includes: Susan Bogen, Allan Drossman, Itsuko Ishiguro, Ellen Mulligan, Sandy Pancrazi, and Cynthia Shevelew, and this year a guest potter, Margit Werner-Ergas, also appears. Many are members of the New Jersey Potter’s Guild, and all have perfected their craft. In addition to the tiny tidbits shown here, you can view some additional images of the show in the flickr photo stream they have posted here.
Just one example of the myriad of offerings to be found over at the Art School, this renown cultural institution has educated and inspired generations of artists here in Northern New Jersey and beyond. Stop in and see for yourself the possibilities for kids, seniors, and everyone in between. As for this event, I dare you not to find a
new favorite piece, or a special handmade gift … see you there!
