Late summer night, back porch, screen door. And always a few of these mesmerized by the glowing porch light. This one won’t flutter away, though. Stretching for the sky and at about 1.75″ wide and 1.25″ high, this little guy is one-of-a-kind, completely hand fabricated from sterling silver with a fused sterling body. Oxidized to a mottled silvery brown with hints of an orange and a slight bluish glow and accented with silver high lights, the wings have a varied hue that seems appropriately moth-like. A likely companion for a magical summer evening on your own back porch, at the campfire, or in summer time dreams of your secret midnight garden.
This necklace is just about 18″. This necklace is one of a series on moths that I will be continuing over time, but each will be a one of a kind piece. The mottled patina on the moth is sealed with a special wax, the same product used by many museums to protect antique metal pieces, which helps to preserve the coloration.
